ABOUT THE COALITION
Fairness for Fire Victims is a grassroots coalition of survivors of the Northern California wildfires of 2015-2018. In the span of only four years, 24 fires destroyed over 23,000 homes and killed 130 people or more.
In that time, more than 71,000 people suffered a total of $20 billion in damages from these fires. Our homes, our businesses, and our entire communities were destroyed. Unfortunately, the Fire Victim Trust, which was established to compensate us for these losses, will only pay out about $14 billion in claims, leaving a nearly $6 billion shortfall.
However, there is a common sense solution that will allow fire victims to address this shortfall through the $21 billion California Wildfire Fund, which was established in 2020 and remains fully funded.
Our plight was the inspiration for the fund, but we are currently the only wildfire victims in California excluded from accessing it.
Together with our allies, we are fighting for a simple fix: open the Wildfire Fund to victims of the 2015-2018 fires. Doing so will have zero impact on the state budget and can be done in a way that will preserve the health of the Fund for future needs.
It’s the definition of a win-win.
The time is now. Wildfire victims cannot rebuild their homes and lives with just 70% of what they lost. Join our fight!
OUR MISSION
Fairness for Fire Victims is advocating for fair and complete recovery for all California wildfire victims, no matter when the fires that destroyed their lives, businesses, and communities occurred.
